Kyle Schwarber will appear for the Phillies in Monday’s 2022 Home Run Derby at Dodger Stadium, stamping only the eighth time starting from the beginning of the Derby in 1985 that the Phils have a participant.
Schwarber will go against Albert Pujols in the primary round of the 2022 Home Run Derby.
Schwarber entered Monday with the second best chances of the eight contenders (+330), positioning just behind 2020 and 2021 winner, Pete Alonzo.
The history of Philadelphia’s experiences in the yearly Home Run Derby:
Jim Thome (2004)
Thome was the primary Phillie to take part in the HR Derby. He entered with exclusive standards, conveying 28 homers into the All-Star break, yet hit only four in the derbyand finished in 6th spot.
Bobby Abreu (2005)
Abreu’s presentation in Detroit stays perhaps of the best showings in HR Derby history. Abreu hit 41 dingers that evening, a record that was not beaten for 11 years. Abreu was the first Phil’s player to ever walk away victorious from a home run derby.
Ryan Howard (2006)
Howard scraped by to get past the initial round yet with only a few hits. In the long, he run took the crown in Pittsburgh with a success over David Wright in the end. Howard proceeded to hit 58 homers that year as the Phillies started their ascent to noticeable quality in the NL East.
Ryan Howard (2007)
The favorite to win, Howard hit only three homeruns in the initial round and left the HR Derby without a very remarkable mix.
Chase Utley (2008)
Utley’s seventh-place execution in the HR Derby was forgettable, yet he got a title. Utley was being booed at Yankee stadium and decided to let the fans know he was unhappy. It stands as one more reference in the long history encompassing Utley versus New York City.
Ryan Howard (2009)
2009 marked Howard’s third and last appearance in the derby. Howard hit 15 dingers yet finished third in the derby.
Rhys Hoskins (2018)
Hoskins completed third in the challenge at Nationals Park where he hit 20 homers in the subsequent round. After this he lost to Schwarber and his 21 dingers. Bryce Harper, a National at the time, proceeded to win the challenge. He took out his current teammate Kyle Schwarber in the title round.
